Turbinado sugar is made from the initial pressings of the sugar cane. After pressing the freshly cut sugar cane to squeeze out the juice, the juice is naturally evaporated and spun in a turbine to produce and large molasses-colored crystals.
Often called “sugar in the raw” or “raw sugar,” turbinado undergoes very little processing, retains more of the natural vitamins and minerals of the sugar cane plant, and is considered a healthier alternative to white refined sugar.
Turbinado sugar is an excellent addition to body scrubs. The crystals, coarser than those of refined sugar, help exfoliate dead skin cells without the damage that can result from heavy salts or pulverized nut shells, or fruit pits, which can have sharp edges.
Natural sugars contain Glycolic Acid, a type of alpha-hydroxy acid that helps loosen the “glue” that holds dead skin cells to the surface of the skin which allows the old, skin cells to be washed away.
The raw Turbinado sugar also adds the vitamins and minerals present in natural sugar cane juice, such as calcium, magnesium, potassium, and iron.
We use only Fair Trade Organic Turbinado Raw Cane Sugar. No chemicals, bone char, or animal by-products are used to make this sugar making it ideal for vegans.
